Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was the first head of the government, who took a bold step of the construction of Lowari Tunnel in 1976. But after the dismissal of his Govt, General Ziaul Haq stopped the construction of Loawri Tunnel and Chitral was put back to dark era and remained cut off from the rest of the country for six months every year. We had a single proof of national identity cards to be Pakistani citizen. However, Lowari tunnel remained a political slogan during all governments, but fruitless. When, General Musharraf came into power, he promised with the Chitrali nation to construct Lowari Tunnel and gave it practical shape. Really, it was a difficult task but great decision of great Musharaf. He is definitely a great and true Muslim leader. The name of this great man will be written in golden words in the history of Chitral in particular and in Pakistani history in general. General Musharraf, We the Chitrali nation salute you for your great decision of the construction of Lowari Tunnel in order to make the future of our new generation bright.
