It is a shocking news that the management of PIA is taking decision to
discontinue flight operation from Islamabad to Chitral, this decision
(if taken) discloses the dishonesty of PIA higher management with the
organization, Air service from Islamabad to Chitral is not in the
favor of Chitrali people but it promotes the tourism industry of
Pakistan. Northern Areas and Chitral are the only areas in Pakistan
attracting the tourists from all over the world, and as compared to
Northern Areas Chitral is most feasible for tourism due to its
peaceful environment, such decision of course can destroy the tourism
industry of the country.
The management of the PIA itself is responsible in making the service
unsuccessful and following are the reasons.
1. The management does not wants to make the organization profitable
due to the fear of privatization, according to the announcement of
Chairman PIA in the first week of November, 2007, the total
accumulated loss of PIA is 35 billion and the loss during the ten
months of this year is 10.9 billion, which is more than 31% of total
accumulated loss, at the end of the year total loss for the year 2007
would be up to 13 billion and expected loss from Islamabad Chitral
route will be only 0.35%, it does not make sense to discontinue the
service only to cover 0.35% loss.
2. After the inauguration of Islamabad Chitral flights, there ware
many complaints by the passengers about the nonavailability of tickets
from PIA counter, to solve the problem a delegation of Islamabad based
Chitrali people have met with the higher management of PIA in
Islamabad and informed about the problems. It had been assured by the
management to solve the ticketing problem in near future, but
unfortunately with the passage of five month no positive decision has
been taken, it means that the management is involve in the conspiracy
against the organization.
3. The staff in PIA office Rawalpindi are responsible for the failure
of this service, they are torching the passengers, tourists instead of
helping them...
For the successful operation of Islamabad Chitral flight followings
suggestions should be considered.
1. The higher management of PIA must think on its decision and
continue the service till the completion of Lawari Project.
2. There must be no manual reservation, it should be on line, any
passenger who wants to avail ticket must contact the PIA counter
within the 24 hours before departure.
3. Tickets shall be issued from all PIA counters, travel agents
working within Pakistan or abroad, there are three PIA counters one in
Rawalpindi, another in Blue area Islamabad, and third in Islamabad Air
Port, tickets shall be issued from both (three) counters.
4. After the closure of Lawari Tunnel there would be extra demand for
tickets, in winters tickets shall be issued from PIA office Peshawar
also, because passengers would prefer to travel from Peshawar to
Islamabad by paying fare of one hundred rupees instead of staying in
Peshawar for another day or travel via Afghanistan which is riskier
both in terms of life and money..
It is requested to the competent authority of PIA to review its
decision, otherwise Chitrali people will take appropriate steps for
the restoration of this service in either cost.
