ALLOCATION OF RESERVED SEATS
I would like to draw the attention of concerned authorities & to
request them to look into the admission policy of University of
Peshawar. Last night while surfing the internet, I been through the
official website of University of Peshawar, I was surprised to notice
that there is only ONE reserved seat for Chitrali students, for which
Chitralians have to vie with candidates of Northern-Areas, where the
number of reserved seat is very few as compared to the number of
students desirous to get higher education. On the other hand the
allocation of reserved seats for Tribal Areas and other districts has
been greater than before. As Chitral is an isolated remote District of
N-W.F.P. stretched in an area of 14850sq KM -- which covers one-fifth
of the total area of the province -- having population of 390000,
having 50.5% literacy rate (Male 59%, Female 42%) according to EU
reports, which is quite higher as compared to other districts of N-W.F.P.
My question to the authorities concerned and higher-ups of the N-W.F.P.
is, why this discrimination? Why the Policy makers give cold shoulder
to Chitrali students? Why the reserved seats in every department for
their kith-and-kin of University employees? Why . . . ?
I would make a clarion call to the authorities concerned and policy
makers to take immediate action in this regard. They should also
allocate seats to Chitrali Students ONLY and not share it with the
Northern-Areas, or make all seats on open merits, so that, a merit
base, fair selection can take place or otherwise.
