Electricity Shortage in Chitral
The district of Chitral faces severe shortage of electricity
since 2006 for two reasons. First reason is outdated machinery in
Chitral Mini Hydel Power Station, which has reduced its generation
capacity from one megawatt to half megawatt. Since 1975 the
machinery has not been looked after for proper maintenance. Second
reason is that the Lawari Tunnel Organization is using two third of
the electricity supplied to consumers in Chitral from National Grid
over the Lawari pass. This line was meant for 3.3 Megawatt, but two
third of it goes to SAMBO Company for the Lawari Tunnel.
Currently people of Chitral face 10 hours load shedding in 24 hours
time, and our equipment have gone out of order due to low voltage
during lighting hours.
We humbly request the concerned authorities to replace the outdated
machinery of Chitral Mini Hydel Power Station, and allocate
separate feeder for the Lawari Tunnel Organization to solve our
problem. We also request to make the abandoned diesel power
generators in Chitral fully operational to meet the immediate needs
of the people.

sudden demise of Nadir Sultan, Ataliqan dur, Brep. He was not only
an affectionate father of his children, but a loving elder brother
and crony of mine. He was a descendent of Shah Sultan Attaliq,
prominent social worker and respectable elder of the area. He had
served the nation as a soldier and a physical education teacher for
a long period. We have lost a personality who has no substitute.
