Doctors are Maseeha

Dear Editor,

We have heard many times that doctors are healers (maseeha), but this case has been completely reversed in DHQ Hospital Chitral. A doctor instead of treating the wounds of an injured patient and to minimize his pain, is making the patient to suffer further. No one can change the nature, which is absolute, but the doctor needs to ask himself what he is actually portraying by doing this. I think this is shameful to the whole medical community (if it is true). I can only empathize for the patient and nothing more than that, because the incharge of the hospital is not ready to take an action against the doctor, then it is difficult for and individual like me to handle the situation. It seems appropriate to mention here how Danesh (1997), described the relationship between a physician and his client. He says "In therapy love and trust- unconditional, pure and unadulterated- are essential prerequisites". But we are far away from this concept in Chitral.
The concerned authority needs to investigate the matter and intervene appropriately, otherwise the health care agency will convert into a butcher shop, one day or the other.
