Congratulatory massages are a matter of personal Choice......
Dear Editor
This refers to a series of letters and rebuttals regarding the
congratulatory massages appearing on the Chitral Times. Apart from
the arguments put forwarded by both parties it is sad to observe
that the educated and enlightened class of Chitral is indulging in
mud slinging and self marketing. I am unable to understand through
all this what kind of moral philosophy and vision they are offering
to the younger lot to follow. Tolerance and regard for the others
opinion is the essential element of enlightened and cultured debate
which is sadly missing in this case.
It is a matter of personal choice that whom someone prefers to
congratulate and no one has the right to force him to do it. And
also one is liable to take it for granted that Peers' appreciation
of the youth's achievement is commendable but there is thin shade
between appreciations and marketing that must be kept in mind. It
is a pathetic to use a medium for marketing and it should be
avoided at all prices.
Moreover I dare to ask our Editor to designate a separate place for
the congratulatory messages and announcements. In case one has to
congratulate somebody that may be posted there. It will redeem the
Letters to Editor page from messages aimed at marketing and self
promotion.
As human feelings are subjective, therefore the opinion reflects
the behavioral traits of a person and results into difference of
opinion. It should be taken as such and it also entails that if we
are debating at public place then it should be left to that
community to judge the validity of the argument and watch the
entire process keeping in mind the notion of "objectivity valid
for times and peoples."
