Congratulation for Award and presentation

Fatima Jinnah Award indeed an honor for Chitral in general and for Lakshan Bibi in particular. It is super and great that Lakshan Bibi globally presented Chitral with specific reference to Kalash Community. People of Chitral should be proud of such member of the Community. Since Lakshan Bibi must have been able to establish quite an effective link with international women presently living in Islamabad, I personally feel it necessary to bring some income generating project for Chitral and specially for Kalash Valleys like establishment of schools, vocational centres for women, special subsidies on essential commodities, improvement of link road, wood working, development of livestock and its by products, fruits and vegetables and marketing in Islamabad and abroad. As a social worker, well-wisher of Chitral and member of one LSO in Chitral I offer my service for drafting proposals if Ms. Lakshan Bibi likes and asks it.. Once again I congratulate you Lakshan Bibi for the award and also for your successful presentation of Kalash Valleys before persons of foreign diplomats.
Regards.

Liaquat Ali

Destruction of Brep-Bridge is not a natural calamity

Dear Editor,

Destruction of Brep-Bridge is not a natural calamity. It is the lethargic action of the responsible authorities and the contractor which caused the collapse of the only bridge, connecting Yarkhun Valley with the rest of Chitral. The construction of the protection wall to control Yarkhun River, changing its course, should have been completed before the start of flooding in the river. But the same important task was carried out during July this year when flooding was in its peak. It is said that the protection wall was washed away within a week of its handing over to the relevant authorities and final receipt of payments by the contractor. The matter needs proper investigation and those responsible for the willful delay and using substandard material in the construction of the protection wall (band) must be penalized.

At the same time it is requested that the above said ill fated bridge may be reconstructed on emergency basis as it is the only means of communication for the population of 20,000 souls of the remote Yarkhun Valley.

Abbottabad.
