People of Chitral will get LPG for household use by the end of this year .....MNA

By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: The people of Chitral will start getting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household use through pipelines by the end of the year which will greatly help the conservation of oak and deodar forest of Chitral which is ruthlessly chopped down to meet the kitchen fuel needs.

The MNA from Chitral Shahzada Iftikharud Din told the local media men here on Saturday that the extensive use of oak and deodar wood has led to the depletion of forest while the price of the commodity has gone beyond the reach of a common man while the provision of natural gas will do away with the problem once and for all.

“The completion of Lowari tunnel will not only connect Chitral with the rest of the country but will also fraught with a number of new facilities hitherto impossible due to the communication problems”, he said adding that transportation of LPG on bulk quantity to Chitral through the 22-wheeler trucks will start soon after the commissioning of Lowari tunnel for public use.

“The starting of the provision of natural gas through the pipelines from the local LPG tanks will be surely an historical moment and is equally important with that of Lowari tunnel”, he said.

He said that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced in Chitral last year regarding the putting in place of LPG tanks in three different places in Chitral for which land has been acquired recently in three different places of Chitral including Drosh, Broze and Chitral.

The lawmaker from Chitral said that gas will be provided to the households through pipes and the consumers will be billed on monthly basis which will dispose of the use of wood as fuel source for heating and cooking.

He said that as directed by the prime minister, it has been decided to provide subsidy of 67 percent to the consumers and it will save a large fraction of the amount each household spent on fuel wood every year thereby raising their standard of living.

He said that the facility will be extended to the upper Chitral and Lot Koh valley once the roads are widened and the wooden truckable bridges are replaced by concrete bridges which can withstand the burden of the 22-wheeler trucks loaded with LPG.

He said that construction of Shandur Road and Garam Chashma Road will start shortly whose preliminary works have been completed and funds allocated in the budget of the current year of the federal government.

He eulogized the prime minister Nawaz Sharif for paying special attention to the development works of Chitral while the provincial government of PTI has totally ignored the district for development projects.

The senior officers of Sui Northern Gas Limited including senior general manager Ajaz Chaudhry and others were also in attendance.
