Chamber of Commerce Chitral demands to allow pass trucks from
CHITRAL: The chamber of commerce, Chitral has demanded of
the prime minister and chairman of National Highway Authority (NHA)
to allow the carriage contractor of Food department to pass his
trucks through the Lowari tunnel to transport 1000 tons of wheat to
Chitral against its quota failing which severe food shortage will
occur during the winter season.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Sartaj Ahmed Khan,
Haji Muhammad Khan, Amirullah Khan, Muhammad Wazir, Miraj Hussain
and other office bearers of Chitral chamber of commerce, said that
due to the earlier closure of Lowari top road, the huge quantity of
wheat quota could not be transported to Chitral.
They said that work inside the tunnel is suspended for two hours
each at the time of change of shifts in the morning and evening and
if the transport vehicles are allowed to pass through the tunnel,
then the work will not be disturbed and the problem of the
transporters will be solved as well.
They also contended that due to the earlier snowfall in the month
of November in Lowari top, sufficient quantity of diesel and petrol
was not stored whose shortage in the area will lead to bring all
kinds of activities to a grinding halt in the district.
They added that construction materials including cement, steel and
iron sheets were also in short supply in the district due to the
earlier closure of Lowari road which will cause stoppage of
construction work rendering thousands of labourers jobless.
