Anti-Encroachments drive-District administration demolished front portion of 19 shops in Chitral town

By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: The front portions of more than three dozens of shops were razed to the ground by the district administration here on Sunday as part of operation launched against encroachments in the city.

The heavy machinery hammered down the shops in PIA chowk and its outskirt in the presence of Chitral DC Osama Ahmed Warraich to which no resistance was offered by the traders community who had earlier warned the government to desist from the drive.

The shops included a plaza owned by the whilom senator Shahzada Burhanud Din of former royal family of Chitral while the Shahi Bazaar is said to be oldest one established in early 19th century.

Talking to the media persons present on the occasion, DC Chitral said that the anti-encroachment process will be extended to the whole district as zero tolerance policy had been adopted by the government against encroachment.

He appreciated the civil society for extending their moral support to him and encouraged to start the drive and said that no pressure will be accepted in continuing it.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Jughur Action Committee Chitral, Bashirud Din has appreciated the efforts of Chitral DC for his bold steps taken against the encroachers, profiteers and black marketers.

He thanked the KP Chief minister Parvez Khattak and chief secretary for posting an extraordinary officer in Chitral and demanded not to post him out till he cleans Chitral of encroachment and corruption.
