By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: Cleanliness drive of the city has been kicked off with big fanfare by the district administration with the assistance of Chitral Scouts and active participation of civil society organizations which will continue for a week.

Deputy Commissioner Chitral Osama Ahmad Warraich, commandant of Chitral Scouts colonel Niazmud Din Shah and district nazim Maghfirat Shah led the awareness walk before formally inaugurating the campaign in DHQ hospital by clearing the debris of solid wastes.

The squad of DCís Volunteers Task Force, raised recently, made their presence conspicuous while the activists of dozens of civil society organizations and the workers of tehsil municipal administration took part in the campaign.

Earlier, in the function held in this connection, the district nazim Maghfirat Shah expressed his concern over the horrifying situation in near future if no compact and concerted effort is put in place which is taking serious turn in the absence of any proper town planning and management.

He said that the heaps of garbage and solid wastes seen in every nook and corner of the city is posing serious threats of multifarious dimensions and the launching of special drive to purge the city was the accomplishment of district administration for which it will enlist the support of the members of every segment of the civil society.

He hoped the situation will change for better and the system of cleanliness will be sustainable in nature with the local government institutions being put in place and full delegation powers and resources to them as the village and neighbourhood councils have been entrusted with the heavy duty of municipal services and functions.

Commandant, Chitral Scouts colonel Nizamud Din Shah assured the district administration of his all out support to make the drive a success and maintain its vigor in future as well while a clean Chitral will encourage tourism.
He was pleased to note the enthusiasm of the civil society and asked the district administration to keep up the spirit which will culminate in organization of a vibrant society.

Addressing on the occasion, the Chitral DC Osama Ahmed Warraich expressed his resolve to take stern steps to keep the city clean by ensuring its sustainability and make the city a model for other districts of the province.

He said that the encroachment poses yet another threat to the city for which the district administration is going to launch a relentless operation which had defaced the city.
