CHITRAL: Cleanliness drive of the city has been kicked off
with big fanfare by the district administration with the assistance
of Chitral Scouts and active participation of civil society
organizations which will continue for a week.
Deputy Commissioner Chitral Osama Ahmad Warraich, commandant of
Chitral Scouts colonel Niazmud Din Shah and district nazim
Maghfirat Shah led the awareness walk before formally inaugurating
the campaign in DHQ hospital by clearing the debris of solid
The squad of DCís Volunteers Task Force, raised recently, made
their presence conspicuous while the activists of dozens of civil
society organizations and the workers of tehsil municipal
administration took part in the campaign.
Earlier, in the function held in this connection, the district
nazim Maghfirat Shah expressed his concern over the horrifying
situation in near future if no compact and concerted effort is put
in place which is taking serious turn in the absence of any proper
town planning and management.
He said that the heaps of garbage and solid wastes seen in every
nook and corner of the city is posing serious threats of
multifarious dimensions and the launching of special drive to purge
the city was the accomplishment of district administration for
which it will enlist the support of the members of every segment of
the civil society.
He hoped the situation will change for better and the system of
cleanliness will be sustainable in nature with the local government
institutions being put in place and full delegation powers and
resources to them as the village and neighbourhood councils have
been entrusted with the heavy duty of municipal services and
Commandant, Chitral Scouts colonel Nizamud Din Shah assured the
district administration of his all out support to make the drive a
success and maintain its vigor in future as well while a clean
Chitral will encourage tourism.
He was pleased to note the enthusiasm of the civil society and
asked the district administration to keep up the spirit which will
culminate in organization of a vibrant society.
Addressing on the occasion, the Chitral DC Osama Ahmed Warraich
expressed his resolve to take stern steps to keep the city clean by
ensuring its sustainability and make the city a model for other
districts of the province.
He said that the encroachment poses yet another threat to the city
for which the district administration is going to launch a
relentless operation which had defaced the city.
