Kalash festival Chitermass celebrates in Kalash valley

By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: The winter festival of Kalash people, Chitramas is being celebrated in the Kalash valleys of Bumburate, Birir and Rumbur which continues for two weeks staring from 8th of the current month to be concluded on 22nd.

As one of the important rituals of the festival, in every village of the valleys, a number of men and women have volunteered to confine themselves inside a cattle-house which is called autik (get into seclusion).

The secluded people completely insulate themselves from the other people during the week and they eat the meat of slaughtered goats, drink and pass the time in merry-making.

Zamurin Kalash from Bumburate valley told Chitral Times  here on Friday that this year, the pleasant weather conditions are likely to add more colors to the festivities while sunny day has been predicted for the final day which coincides the first day of the Kalash calendar year.

He said that the festival is purely dogmatic in nature and no outsiders and tourists are welcomed to the valley whose entry into the houses of Kalash is strictly prohibited as even their sight or touch will is believed to pollute them.

The tourists and outsiders watch the Kalash from a distant view and they can not intermingle with Kalash as they do in other festivals especially in Chilim Jusht, he said.

Last year, the festivities of the last six and particularly the concluding ceremonies in all the three valleys were held with simplicity due to the attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar.

NCCB appealed for help of disasters hit people of Chitral

By Our Correspondent

CHITRAL: The chief executive officer of Northern Citizen Community Board (NCCB) Chitral, Shahzada Ibrahim Pirzada has appealed to the donor agencies across the globe to rush to the rescue of the twin-disasters hit people of Chitral by giving them lavish donation for their rehabilitation which is beyond the capacity of the government.

Flanked by former MPA Saeed Ahmed Khan and other office-bearers of the organization, Sajjad Hussain Shah, Izaz Ali Shah, Sirajud Din advocate and others here on Friday, he said that the NCCB is the only organization on which the donor can trust for distribution of their donations.

He said that the organization is known in the area for its community oriented activities which has supported the needy and the indigent people in their hours of need and its chief achievement is the provision of shelter to the heirs of those martyred in war against terror through its housing scheme.

He said that NCCB has always relied on its resources for meeting the needs of the deprived and needy people but the twin disasters of flash flood and earthquake had losses on such a colossal scale that he had to appeal to the international donors.
