Brig. Ziaul Islam inaugurates power project of 200kw in Border
village of Arandu
CHITRAL: It was a rare occasion for the residents of the
border village of Arandu to get electricity as the mini hydro power
project was inaugurated by sector commander North of Frontier
Corps, Brigadier Zia Ul Islam in a ceremony largely attended by the
The power project executed by Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP)
with the financial assistance of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund
has a generation capacity of 200 kW will electrify 400 households
of the border area.
The regional program manager of AKRSP, Sardar Ayub briefing about
the project, said that its total cost was 17.270 rupees which was
completed in a period of two years and its operation is entrusted
to the local community.
He said that his organization had carried out a number of
interventions in the area in the recent past and completed forty
projects of community infrastructures which included link roads,
drinking water supply schemes, irrigation channels and others.
Brigadier expressed his pleasure over the active participation of
the community in the completion of the project and said that the
electricity will improve their living standard and also create job
opportunities for them by promoting the cottage industry.
He appreciated the role of the local community for maintaining
peace and tranquility in the area which was necessary for carrying
out development activities and assured them that Pak Army will
continue to solve the issues faced by them.
Later, he distributed relief items among the poor people of the
area affected by earthquake and visited the local government-run
high School and had interaction with the students about their

The member of tehsil council from Arandu, Haji Sultan Muhammad
highlighted the issues of the area in the field of development
which included resumption of work on main Arandu Road and
appreciated the contribution of AKRSP in its development.
