CHITRAL: Nine persons died here on Wednesday when a datsun coming from Murdan village of Garam Chashma valley plunged into river on Garam Chasham road near Chew bridge in the vicinity of the city.

Police sources told Chitral Times  that only one lady could be saved who has been admitted to the DHQ hospital where her condition is said to be out of danger while the four dead bodies could be retrieved from the water and the search of the rest of them was in progress.

Out of the Nine passengers, three belonged to the family of Miraj Khan from Upper Dir who had married a woman (name could not be ascertained) in Murdan village and was going back to his village along with his wife, Sumayya (an infant) and his brother-in-law Abdul Hanan while the only surviving passenger is the wife of Miraj Khan.

The bodies of Sumayya (Dir Bala), Haibat Khan (Shoghore), Abdul Hanan (Murdan), Banat Bibi (Murdan) have been recovered while the bodies of Hamza Khan, Afzal Khan, Mutaib Shah (residents of Murdan) and that of Miraj Khan (upper Dir ) are missing yet.

Despite the lower ebb of the river, the vehicle could not be located till filing of this report as it is believed that the four missing dead bodies are trapped within the vehicle.

It is pertinent to note that two vehicles went untraced which had plunged into the river in the same place a decade ago.

Meanwhile, the session of the district council was adjourned when the accident occurred and the district nazim Maghfirat Shah rushed to the spot along with the members of the council and supervised the rescue and search process.
