Member District council  warns to resign

By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: The member of zilla council from Karimabad, Muhammad Yaqoob Khan has warned the government that if the faulty and fictitious assessment survey of the earthquake damage is not revised, all the local bodies elected representatives will resign en block to lead the protest of the people.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday flanked by member of tehsil council Muhammad Ali Shah and others, he said that the earthquake had wreaked havoc in the valley rendering hundreds of people homeless but the survey teams did not include them in the list of affected people which deprived them from the compensation.

He said that the majority of the valley’s population suffered from abject poverty and it was beyond their capacity to reconstruct their damaged houses before the advent of winter season and the affected people are in dire need of assistance in this stage.

He said that the assessment teams did not visit even a number of villages of the valley which has shocked the dwellers of the valley and they demand stern action against those responsible for the negligence.

Mr. Khan said that the valley had earlier been devastated by the flash flood in the month of July and had washed away the roads, bridges, irrigation channels and water supply schemes which are yet to be restored.

“It seems that the government has consigned the people of Karimabad to oblivion in all walks of life and in such circumstances, it was of no use to remain in the local bodies”, he said and reiterated his demand of conducting fresh assessment by new teams in the valley.
