Hundred of passengers strands in Dir side of Lowari top for 12 hrs

By Zahiruddin

Hundreds of passengers coming to Chitral from Peshawar and Islamabad remained stranded in Dir side of Lowari Top for more than twelve hours as the road was closed for traffic due to snowfall here on Tuesday.

Passengers reaching here told Chitral Times  that more than one hundred vehicles were carrying the passengers out of which many were women and children and they had to brave the chilly winds of Lowari Pass hit by blizzards.

Ghulam Mustafa, a passenger travelling with his family, said that the waiting room built by  NGO proved to be a place of solace for the women and the children.

The Lowari tunnel was opened for the passengers in the afternoon after which they reached here after remaining in journey for more than twenty hours after leaving Peshawar and Islamabad.

An official of National Highway Authority told Chitral Times  that the snow will be cleared on Lowari top road if the weather improves in a couple of days.
