Minister local government Inayatullah Khan visit Chitral

By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: The minister of local government, Inayatullah Khan has asked the political leadership of the three adjacent  districts of Chitral, Dir upper and Dir lower to make a united platform demanding the passage of the alternative route of Pak-China Economic Corridor through the region while Lowari Tunnel is in final phase of construction.

Addressing the newly elected members of zilla, tehsil and village councils here on Sunday, he said that the geographical location and proximity of the region to China warranted the route to be used in case of emergency.

He said that situated in the gateway of the Central Asia, the sequence of the three districts was such that they could assimilate and support the inflow of economic and trade activities from across the border.

“This is the right time to put forward and press the demand to make the alternative route passed through the region which will bring the backward area at par with the developed ones”, he said and asked the regional leaders to shun their political bickering and gain the objective.

He said that the idea has already been floated by Sirajul Haq, the chief of JI in the all parties meeting convened by the prime minister the other day and it has to be given proper momentum by us.

Regarding the local bodies system put in place in the province, the minister said that it had assured political, administrative and financial autonomy to the smaller units for the first time well in consonance with the article 41 of the constitution of Pakistan.

He said that the local bodies will be strengthened financially and the decentralization of powers will make them vibrant entities solving the problems of the masses at their doorsteps.

Mr. Khan said that Chitral had a tremendous potential of hydro-power generation, mines and minerals and tourism and all these will find boost by the newly elected district government to which necessary power will be devolved.

He asked the members of local bodies to avoid political confrontation which stopped development process and resulted in stagnation.

The district amir of JI and the nominee for district nazim from the religious alliance of JI and JUI, Maghfirat Shah also addressed on the occasion.
