Rigging on large scale at LG polls...Shazda Gul and Abdul Wali Advocate

By Zahiruddin

The candidate of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) for the seat of district council Chitral from Chitral-II ward, Shahzada Amir Hasanatud Din alias Shazda Gul, has alleged rigging on large scale before, during and after polling and has demanded of the election commission to order re-polling.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that district administration fully abetted the candidate of Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam (JUI) due to which he lost the election by a very narrow margin.

He said that the entire polling staff in the polling station of his constituency had reportedly strong affiliations with the religious parties, JI and JUI, who were in electoral alliance in the district and they rigged the election results.

Mr. Gul further alleged that the polling staff stopped his supporters from casting their votes and during the polling and maneuvered the result during the counting process of the ballot papers.

“Taking advantage of the load shedding of electricity during the counting process, they manipulated the ballot papers cast in my favour by declaring them in favour of my rival candidate of JUI”.

“In one of the polling stations, the volume of the ballot papers sorted out for me was too large but it was reduced to less than half when the electricity failed and counted in candle light and my majority was changed by minority in front of my eyes”, he said adding that the returning officer did not take any cognizance when complained.

Mean while the candidate of PTI for district council ward of Denin, Abdul Wali Khan advocate has alleged that with the help of deputy commissioner Chitral, his rival candidate Maghfirat Shah, district amir of JI, has perpetrated all types of poll riggings to defeat him.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that the local government minister Inayatullah bestowed on his opponent 30 million rupees before election to carry out development works in the area which was a pre-poll rigging.

He said that his opponent was only amir of JI and did not hold any office but he a large sum of money was placed at his disposal which had no justification at all.

He went to allege that the DC Chitral extended full support to his opponent during and after the polling process and no stone unturned to rig the polls and change the results.

Mr. Khan said that his voters were harassed in the polling station situated in the native village Jughoor of his opponent candidate where he had got posted polling staff of his choice.

He said that the district returning officer and the returning officer both turned down the re-counting of the ballot papers of the ward which was his right as given in the conduct of election manual clearly.

He also demanded the Ehtisab Commission of KP to conduct inquiry against the large scale embezzlement in the funds meant for development and placed at his disposal to bribe the people before the polls.
