Tourism department to take over all Govt. rest houses

Reiterating the Provincial government’s resolve for converting the government rest houses into income generation commercial entities, the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed the Tourism department to take over all rest houses from the government departments and workout modalities, including necessary legislation, for outsourcing them to private sector. Seeking feasible proposal for establishing provincial tourism authority to make the tourism a more functional and vibrant sector, he directed to chalk out plans for integrating sports, cultural and archeological initiatives and activities to support promotion of tourism in the province.

Chairing a meeting at CM Secretariat , the Chief Minister also directed to complete establishment and reconstruction of 76 sports grounds during the current year and asked the sports department to establish cultural and Jawan Marakaz (youth centers) inside these grounds.

The meeting was held for discussing the affairs of Tourism, Culture, Sports, Youth Affairs, Archeology and Museum department to rejuvenate it on modern and meaningful lines. The Senior Minister for Local Government, Inayatullah, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Sports and Tourism, Amjad Afridi, Secretary Sports, Culture and Tourism, Muhammad Azam Khan and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak told that sufficient funds have been earmarked for sports and youth activities under the Local Government allocations and it would be mandatory for the local councils to spend sizable amount for promotion of these activities. He asked the department to look into prospects for using the surplus hostel buildings available at different colleges of the province for the youth activities and also submit a proposal for setting up a separate directorate of youth affairs.

He also assured to approach the federal government for transferring the properties of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government under the 18th constitutional amendment and said that PaRRSA (Provincial Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Settlement Authory) would be made functional for coordinating the ongoing reconstruction and uplift operations in flood-hit district of Chitral advising that all tourism revival and promotion plans should be incorporated into the integrated reconstruction and rehabilitation scheme being prepared for Chitral.

Stressing for implementation of his earlier directives for revival of historic glory of Tehsil Gor Gathri of Peshawar city, the Chief Minister asked the department to ensure removal of the wedding hall from the historic archeological site and examine feasibilities of different available proposals to attract tourists
