Problems of Students need to be resolved

Respected Sir,

Chitral is the biggest district of KPK. Time and again a voice has been raised for the establishment of fully fledged University in Chitral. Two campuses, Abdul Wali Khan University & Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University have been established. Abdul Wali Khan University, Chitral campus is not recognized by HEC. Very few departments are functioning in these two campuses. They faculties are busy in imparting good quality education to students. Students who are not able to take admission proceed toward different cities of Pakistan.

I have noticed different issues of students during their studies in Karachi. Majority have the financial issues, residential issues as there are no hostel facilities in Karachi, admissions problems due to category system. Sectarian killings are also a big problem for Chitralis inhabitant in Karachi. There are also biased attitude of the authorities in the University of Karachi. There is a great discrimination with chitrali students. Due to this issues some of the shining students are getting stress and are becoming mentally disturbed.

Here I want to highlight the major issues of students. There is a problem of getting admission in University as there is category system. Karachities are given preference over other competent students. There is no merit for admission in University of Karachi. When a student gets admission he/she has the residential problem. Boys usually get rented home and start staying with their fellows and other colleagues where as this situation is different for females. There is only one hostel for females which has the capacity of adjusting approximately 100 students and their recruitment is on the basis of political references. Those students without having political references are not able to take admission which further increases the frustrations of female students. Also there are financial problems for the students. Majority of the students used to do job to overcome this problem and face different stress at job. At the end of semester they face short attendance problem.

So my request to the authorities is to keep in mind the need of University and to provide hostels for females to overcome residential problems.

Regards,
Sajjad Ali Shah (Garam chashma Sanik)
University Of Karachi, Social Work Department.
