Seminar on Chitral's role in CPEC in the next
MNA from Chitral ShahzadaIftikharud Din has said that the
fabulous potential of hydro-electric generation in the district
will be exploited to its optimum under the China-Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC) development program which will fulfill contribute
to about half the total of the country’s demand of electricity at
cheapest rate per unit.
Talking to the media on telephone from Islamabad here on Friday, he
said that a seminar on ‘Chitral’s role in CPEC’ was being held in
the next month in Chitral to highlight its importance and sensitize
the stake holders related with the hydro power generation.
He said that the federal minister for planning ,development and
reforms, Ahsan Iqbal and joint chairman on CPEC in Senate and
National Assembly, Mushahid Hussain Syed will participate in the
seminar while the heads of Planning Commission, WAPDA and
Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organzation (PEDO) will also
participate as stake holders pertaining to hydro-electricity.
The lawmaker from Chitral said that initially seven sites have been
singled out to be put up in the seminar which included Kari-Broze
project (455 MW), Kessu-Sweer (300 MW), Kuragh-Mori Lusht (262 MW),
Atahk (200 MW), Laspur-Sarghuz (165 MW) and Shoghor-Seen (132MW).
He said that there scores of other sites for hydro- power project
were available in Chitral whose feasibility study was ye to be
undertaken due to resource constraint.
Mr. iftikharud Din said that all other subjects related to the
rapid development of Chitral will also be concentrated upon which
will result in the poverty reduction which included promotion of
tourism industry and exploitation of mines and minerals as well as
the gems and precious stones.
He said that the ambassador of China to Pakistan was also being
approached for his participation along with other senior diplomats
and the state actors for development.
He said that Chitral presented the best option as alternate way of
CPEC and the completion of the 9 kilometer long Lowari tunnel
providing all weather route to the district had made it possible to
extend it to the Central Asian republics through the Wakhan
The MNA said that the seminar will bring to limelight the rank,
position and significance of the hitherto neglected part of the
country in its extreme north and the leverage it holds to
contribute to the progress and prosperity of the nation.
He said that a wide spectrum of the local stake holders were being
invited to expose the vista and potential they wielded in the CPEC
ShahzadaIftikharud Din had visited Karamay, Urumchi and Kashghar
China as part of the official delegation of CPEC in August 2015.
