JI Youth protest held against PTCL poor DSL
CHITRAL: The activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Youth took out
protest procession against PTCL for its failure to improve the DSL
based internet service in Chitral and the inordinate delay in
putting to operation the fibre optic system which had been
installed last year.
Led by Wajeehud Din, the president of JI-Youth’s Chitral chapter,
they staged sit-in in front of the PTCL office and chanted slogans
against the company and were carrying placards inscribed with
demands for improving the internet service.
The procession terminated at Chitral Press Club where they
addressed a press conference and demanded of the chairman of
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to take stern notice against
PTCL for its negligence which affected the internet users in
They alleged that the PTCL is charging from the subscribers for 4MB
DSL based internet but in practice, the strength of the service is
below 1MB and thus hoodwinking the consumers in Chitral.
They said that the laying of the fibre optic to Chitral and the
installation of the machinery and equipments in Chitral have been
completed last year but it is not made operationalized by PTCL for
no obvious reasons.
They also criticized the Warid Telecom for hoodwinking the
consumers in the name of 4G internet service which is also a farce
in practice and demanded of the PTA to take notice of the matter.
They gave a deadline of one week to the PTCL to improve its
internet service failing which the internet users will have no
option but to lock down the PTCL offices in Chitral.
