Contractors Association demands release of funds for ongoing
CHITRAL: The president of All Government Contractors
Association Chitral, Miraj Hussain Laal has demanded of the
government to release the funds for the ongoing development schemes
being executed by public works departments in Chitral to ensure
their timely completion.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday flanked by other
leaders of the association including Nasir Ahmed Khan, Baberud Din
and others, he complained that the release of funds is pending with
the provincial government’s finance department for the last one
year adversely affecting the progress of development projects.
He said that more than one hundred projects had been started by the
departments of communication and works (C&W) and irrigation during
the last one year but only 2 million rupees were released against
the required volume of more than Rs.200 million.
He said that most of the contractors have either completed their
works or their works were on the verge of completion without
drawing a single penny from the respective departments and are
waiting for the clearance of their bills.
Mr. Laal alleged that the finance department releases the available
funds to the native districts of the chief minister (Nowshera),
finance minister (Lower Dir) and speaker of provincial assembly (Swabi)
and the rest of the districts are being neglected altogether.
He warned the government that if their pending bills were not
cleared within a fortnight time, then they have no option but to
resort to stop the ongoing works on the sites and start a protest
against the provincial government.
