KP govt to ensure completion of Swat Motorway with effective monitoring-Muzaffar Said Advocate

PESHAWAR: KP Finance Minister Muzaffar Said Advocate has directed the concerned authorities to evolve effective mechanism for early start of construction work on Swat Motorway and step by step monitoring of the mega project. He said it is vital plan of economic prosperity of the province while Chief Minister Pervez Khatak is also evincing keen interest in its quality completion.

Talking at a review meeting about provision of funds and physical progress on Swat Motorway at his office Civil Secretariat Peshawar he revealed that plan was also being concieved to establish industrial estates along both sides of the highway at different places that would comsume local raw materials resulting in increasing job opportunities on one side while tourism and trade activities would also boost considerably due to ease in access to scenic valleys of Swat, Dir, Chitral and northern areas. Hence he made clear that lack of funds would not be made hurdle in early completion of this important project. He said efforts are being made for resource mobilization to facilitate the process of funding the Swat Express Way that is ventre of the provincial government being undertaken with its own resources. He said Frontier Works Organization (FWO) would construct the Swat Express Way costing Rs. 40 billion that would be completed by the end of next year wherein Rs 5 billion would be spent on land purchases while remaining Rs 35 billion would be spent on construction and related infrastructures.

The Finance Minister directed the authorities for close liason and facilitation of the FWO for realising the project. He hoped that the FWO would maintain tits quality of construction work. He assured the provincial government would pay the cost within two installments as per agreement. Muzaffar Said Advocate was told that there are three monitoring and implementation committees for the project. The first committee consisted representatives of Finance, P&D, Law and FWO for the preliminary decision making while the second committee for planning and infrastructure evoluation is headed by Secretary P&D and the third one is for public-private partnership arrangements that is headed by Chief Minister.

Finance Minister asked the members of the committees to be vigilant and supervise the mega project for the best public welfare. He directed the Finance Department to take up the financial issues including net hydel releases with the Federal government closely so that the resources thus obtained could be well exploited for the mega projects and could be completed well in time. He hoped that Swat Motorway will become the life vein integrating the farflung and inaccessible northern parts of the province with the rest of the country. He said these parts of the province were replete with the scenic beauty with unparallel attraction for the tourists world over. He further expressed the hope that this venture was going to be the big step ahead for the promotion of tourism related industry in the province. He said it would create jobs for the youth, promote business, generate resources through trade, industry and tourism related activities and would thus result in to the overall economic uplift of the province. He said completion of th project would show our sincerity to the purpose and welfare of the masses especially the poor.
