Deputy Commissioner Chitral efforts lauded
CHITRAL: The president of Hamadard Party Chitral,
Shahzada Riazud Din has appreciated the anti-encroachment drive
launched by the district administration in Chitral and credited the
Chitral DC Osama Ahmed Warraich for all this.
Flanked by the other activists of the
Waqas Ahmed advocate, Muhammad Wali Shah, Mukhtar Ahmed Charwelu,
Mehmud Alam Baig and others, he appealed to the provincial
government not to transfer the officer from the district till the
encroachments are not removed from every nook and corner of
He said that the polo has been the traditional game of Chitral
lavishly patronized by the former rulers of Chitral who had
provided land for polo grounds in every village across the district
but all these have been encroached upon due to which the game is in
retrogression and losing its popularity.
Mr. Riazud Din asked the district administration to retrieve the
land of polo grounds from the encroachers on priority basis and
revive the game of polo in the district prominent among were in the
villages of Ayun, Koghuzi, Zang Lusht, Rayeen, Prayeet, Sonoghur,
Chuinj, Reshun, Garam Chashma, Harchin, Drosh, Sor Laspur, Nogram,
Morder and Drasun.
He said that the number of polo grounds exceeded one hundred
numbers which were declared state land as in the extra ordinary
gazette of Pakistan issued in 1975 as then they were in the use of
polo players and also served as community centres of the villages.
Mr. Riazud Din said that the encroachment upon the polo grounds in
1980s with the tacit support of the then district administration as
the practice went unchecked and many of the grounds have completely
lost their existence as seen in Ayun and Koghuzi.
“I myself lost eight of my shops in the bazaar during the
anti-encroachment drive but I welcome this step as I want my city
free of encroachments and extend my full support to the incumbent
DC if he faces any kind of hindrance from any quarter”, he said.
