CHITRAL: Shandur Polo Festival over the years has evolved into a traditional annual competition between the arch rivals Chitral and Gilgit. This three day competition takes places at the world’s highest polo ground at the Shandur Top (4000 meters above sea level) near the boundary of Gilgit and Chital. It provides not only a fascinating insight into the lifestyle of the ordinary people of that region but also offers an opportunity for polo enthusiasts to witness the age old free style Polo at the juncture of Hindukush and Karakoram ranges, amidst breathtaking scenery.

The first Polo tournament took place at the Shandur Pass in 1936 and after its revival since 1989 Polo tournament has become an annual event, which is played normally in the second week of July each year. However, due to fall of the Holy month of Ramadan on July, it has been decided that the current year event will be held from July 29-31, 2016.
