World Environment Day celebrated in Gilgit-Baltistan.

On the occasion of World Environment Day June 5th 2016, Chitral
Heritage & Environment Protection Society (CHEPS) in association
with the Environment Protection Agency Gilgit-Baltistan and Central
Gilgit Welfare Organization organized a rally, from 10:00 am to
12:00 am, from Aga Khan Shahi Polo Ground to City Park Gilgit to
celebrate World Environment Day WED to creat awareness on the
importance of caring for the environment, saving our wildlife from
extinction, forests preservation and waste management strategies to
help have a better world.
The rally was joined by Gilgit Serena Hotel, Central Gilgit Welfare
Organization, United NGOs Network Gilgit and IHRCP. Students of
different schools attended the rally. The walk came to an end after
it reached the City Park Gilgit where community representatives and
head of NGOs
and environment activists addressed the gathering. Stage secretary
of the event and social activist Muhammad Tahir Shakir pointed that
Healthy environment only can sustain the flow of fresh water in the
streams, forest and associated natural resources existence.
Director GB-EPA Shehzad Shigri explained the natural resources
potential in the valley and emphasized on conserving it for present
and future generations.
In his speech Chaiman CHEPS Rehmat Ali Jaffar Dost reminded the
strong qoute of Martin Sheen that,”Future generations are not going
to ask us what political party were you in. They are going to ask
what did you do about it, when you knew the glaciers were melting”.
He appealed the youth that clean and green Pakistan is only
possible when the youth selflessly contribute a little of their
time and knowledge for the environmental good.
The event came to an end with a practical cleaning campaign and
peace walk around the Park.
