Labour day and contemporary issues
International Labor Day is celebrated annually on
1st May. This day is a national holiday in more than 80 countries
and also celebrated unofficially in many other countries. Labour
Day has its origins in the labour union movement, Its originates
from the United States labor union movement in the late 19th
Century. specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated
eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours
for rest for the labour in many countries.
Pakistan is celebrating Labour Day since independence (1947) just
after becoming a member of international labour union. In Pakistan
it just like other countries labour day is celebrated on the 1st
Sunday of may . but Some countries vary the actual date of their
celebrations so that the holiday occurs on a Monday close to 1 May.
Labor Day/May Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the
contributions, workers have made to make the world strong and

The energy crises loud shedding increased the labour problems to
new height. Lots of industries are not working due to the shortage
of light. When industries are closed hence its result to no
employment. The circumstances affect labour class directly and
indirectly. Unemployment create frustration among the peoples ,
which cause social problems includes increased robbery suicide
ratios and many others.
Many older factories have been introducing modern automatic
machinery to perform tasks previously done by workers. This is done
mainly to increase productivity. But in some cases it has meant the
elimination of jobs. A major criticism of the labor movement has
been that its traditional demand for higher wages and better
working conditions. Labors also face unfair wages problem in many
areas of Pakistan.
To overcome the entire labours problem we need to improve our
resources. we are presently living in the era of globalization ,
where we need to walk with the world. This would only been done by
solving labours problem and issues. labour class is the back bone
of any country’s economy. And economy is the only way of success.
Government need to take serious steps toward labour right need to
solve energy crises on priority basis. Have check on private
industries also improve the resources as per requirement. Also
provide fair wages to labour that can full fill their basic
The resolution of these problems help in developing trust worthy
and comfortable environment in industries of Pakistan , both for
labour and investors. The labour needs some serious efforts from
power corridors to gets their issue resolved.
