Elites of Chitral visited Golan gole hydro-power project

CHITRAL: The elites of Chitral town representing different civil organizations visited the under-construction hydro-power station in Golen Gole valley on Chitral-Booni Road here on Wednesday and expressed their satisfaction over the pace and quality of work being maintained in the site.

The 2 mega watt power station is being constructed by Program for Economic Advancement and Community Empowerment (PEACE) project of Sarhad Rural Support Program with the financial assistance of European Union.

After visiting different portions of the site including power channel, intake point, forebay tank and power house, the expressed the hope that the city will start getting uninterrupted supply of power during the next couple of months from it and the dreadful long hours of outage of power will come to an end.

The elites included Maulana Sher Aziz, Habib Hussain Mughal, Ebadur Rahman, Qazi Nasee, Abdul Majeed Qureshi, Jandullah Khan, Naveed Ahmed Baig and others who represented different segments of civil society organizations.

They said that the power shortage had taken a horrendous turn over the last decade in the city and the chief executive officer of SRSP responded to the frantic calls of the civil society when the violent protests had become the order of the day and launched the first ever largest hydro power project by any non governmental organization in the district.

The district program manager of SRSP, Tariq Ahmed, present on the occasion, briefed the elites about different aspects of the society and said that after its completion, the power will be distributed through the PESCO lines and the income accrued from it will be utilized as principles of social enterprises.

He said that a large chunk of the saving from the project will be earmarked for the community projects in the area after meeting the operation and maintenance charges.
