Review meeting of District Polio eradication held
CHITRAL: Expressing his anguish over the poor management for
the polio campaign of last month in Chitral leading to low
coverage, the deputy commissioner Osama Ahmed Warraich warned that
any laxity in this connection will culminate in positive cases of
Chairing the review meeting of district polio eradication committee
(DPEC) here on Friday in his office, he scolded the officers of
health department for its negligence towards the polio eradication
program and pointed a series of flaws of fatal nature in it which
hampered the anti-polio campaigns.
Terming the explanation offered by the district health officer, Dr.
Israrullah for the failures as non-realistic, he said that there
was almost no tendency of refusal case on the part of the parents
and no risk of life as prevalent in the other districts and there
wan no impediment for smooth execution.
“It was the sole responsibility of the health department to report
to the district administration about the problems and hurdles of
any type to make the anti-polio campaign a success but no issue was
brought to his notice for solution giving a false impression of all
right”, he said adding that now flimsy excuses are being offered by

launched in ten union councils of Mastuj tehsil targeting 21477
children of below five years of age for which 202 teams had been
Dissenting the plan, Mr. Warraich ordered to include the fourteen
union councils of lower Chitral in the forthcoming campaign sot
that the left-over children could be administered polio drops
thereby increasing the density of coverage.
Most of the members of the DPEC were either absent or being
represented by lower grade staff of the departments while the
district head of every department of the province is its member by
virtue of his or her office.
The representative of Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan from the
meeting was also conspicuous by his absence which the largest
partner of the government in health sector in private sector and
has been assigned leading role in polio eradication.
