Search operation for recovery of avalanche hit students
CHITRAL: Search operation for the recovery of students
buried under the snow avalanche in Susoom village of Karimabad
valley had to be suspended on Saturday due to the heavy rain which
increased the danger of drifting of the snow debris downward.
Mir Aslam , team leader of community volunteers working in the
site, told Chitral Times by telephone that no work could be
initiated as the raining continued throughout the day while the
downward floating of the avalanches takes place during raining.
He said that the process of spraying of water into the snow mass
was being carried on in the course of searching the remaining four
dead bodies which causes the snow to melt as a result of which the
buried bodies surfaced.
Mr. Aslam said that the search work will face further delay if the
area receives snow which is imminent any time during the night if

The team of NDMA, personnel of Chitral Scouts, police, Chitral
Levies and local volunteers are busy in the search operation since
the last two weeks after nine students were buried under the debris
of snow avalanche which hit them while coming from the school.
Meanwhile, Chitral-Garam Chashma and Ayun-Bumburate roads along
with a number of other valley roads were closed for vehicular
traffic on Saturday as the district received widespread rains for
the last two days intermittently.
Life has come to a standstill due to the limited mobility of the
passengers due to the closure of roads as well as the impending
danger of falling boulders in the mountainous roads which are still
opened for traffic.
The local market wore a deserted look as the people confined
themselves to their homes due to the intense cold as a result of
