Two more dead bodies of seven students recovered

By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: The dead bodies of two of the seven students were recovered buried under the snow avalanche in Susoom village early on Sunday morning after hectic efforts of seven days consecutively.

Member of zilla council from Karimabad, Muhammad Yaqub told Chitral Times  by telephone that the local people had directed the water from the nearby irrigation channel into the debris of snow avalanche underneath which the dead bodies were supposed to be lying.

He said that the indigenous approach worked well and due to the flow of the water through the snow mass for whole the night caused it to melt down and during this course, two of the dead bodies were washed away by the water through small distance.

He identified the dead bodies that of Iman Ali son of Fazle Ali and Umarud Din son of Izatud Din of Parsan village while the dead bodies of five other students are yet to be recovered.

Mr. Yaqub said the personnel of Pak Army, Chitral Scouts, police , Chitral Levies and local volunteers carried on the search of the other dead bodies throughout the day while the weather remained all pleasant.

He said that the local elders had proposed to direct water into the avalanche to drain the dead bodies when scores of other techniques ranging from using radar-based gadgets to use the sniffer dogs to identify the location exhausted.

He appreciated the role of commandant of Chitral Scouts colonel Niazmud Din Shah and Chitral DC Osama Ahmed Warraich for providing their respective forces of Chitral Scouts and Levies which are carrying out search operation.

He expressed the hope that all the remaining five dead bodies will be recovered within a couple of days using the same tactic of watering the avalanche in the nighttime.

Nine students of Parsan village had been hit by the snow avalanche nine days ago in Susoom village while going back to their village after appearing in a paper of matriculation examination.
