Rescue operation suspends due to fresh snow fall in Karimabad
CHITRAL; Work was suspended for searching the dead bodies of
the students under the snow avalanche in Susoom village here on
Thursday afternoon due to fresh snowfall which is continuing there
till filing of this report.
Nine school students had been buried alive under the snow avalanche
which hit them on Saturday last when they were going back to their
village after appearing in a paper of matriculation examination
while the dead bodies of only two of them were recovered the next
Mir Dulla Jan, a resident of the village told Chitral Times
by telephone that the excavation work for searching the dead bodies
under the snow was to be suspended in the mid-day as the snowfall
started making it impossible to carry on the work.
He said that the village had received more than four inches snow
afresh during since afternoon which is likely to continue
throughout the night making the search work more and more harder.
The search work is being carried on the personnel of Chitral
Scouts, police, levies, the local volunteers and the team of NDMA
which arrived her two days ago.
Deputy Commissioner Chitral, Osama Ahmed Warraich told Chitral
Times that the heli copter carrying the gadgets including
radar system to locate the dead bodies and the Army Engineers had
to land in upper Dir district due to the snowfall in Lowari Pass on
He said that team of Army Engineers have left Chitral by road from
upper Dir via Lowari tunnel and will be dispatched to the Susoom
village when they arrived here.
The general officer commanding of Pak Army, Maj Gen Nadir Khan had
announced to send the team of army along with the gadgets during
his visit to the village on Wednesday last.
